Octagonal
Pavilion
16
km from the Menghai County seat, was first built
in 1701 as a place of Buddhist worship. It is
said that it is shaped like the golden crown worn
by Sakyamuni, the founder of Buddhism, before
he became a monk. 21 m high and 10 m in diameter
at the bottom, the pavilion is one of the best
examples of Dai architecture.
