||Kunming - Dali (Breakfast
Take early morning flight to Dali.
Have a cruise in the vast blue Erhai Lake, then visit
ZhouCheng Village and know about ethnic Bai People's Tie-dyeing
Cloth with Wax (a technology of printing flower patterns
on cloth). Tour to Xizhou Township and visit unique dwellings
with typical Bai People's features. Afterwards, go to
the Chong Sheng Temple which is famous for its Three Pagodas
and then wander in Dali Ancient City.
Lake: Covering an area of 251 square kilometers,
it is one of the seven biggest fresh water lakes in
China and the second largest lake in Yunnan. The peaks
of Cangshan Mountain are often mirrored in the lake,
making majestic scenery. It would be a great pity if
people traveling to Dali without going for a boat ride
in the lake.
people: The Bai people have a long history and well-developed
culture. 80% of the population of 1.39 million live
in the Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture around the Erhai
Lake with exquisite scenery. The Bai people have their
own spoden language but do not have a written one.
Pagodas: These pagodas are located between Cangshan
Mountain and Erhai Lake, about 1.5 kilometers northwest
from the ancient city of Dali. They were built in the
Five Dynasties (907-960AD). In the time of Nanzhao and
Dali Kingdoms, Chongsheng Monastery was the largest
monastery in this area and the Three Pagodas were only
a part of it. The pagodas were built because of two
main reasons. Firstly, they were holy structures that
invoked the Buddha's protection against the frequent
disasters of floods and earthquakes. Secondly, the pagodas
were used as a storehouse for scriptures and precious

Ancient Town: It is also named Dayan Ancient Town,
famous for its scientific architectural layout. Crisscrossed
by crystal-clear rivers and meandering cobbled streets,
Lijiang Ancient Town is a treasure in the field of urban
construction in China. Square Market was the site of
a major bazaar for local residents to stock up on necessities
such as meat, vegetables, oil and herbal medicine. Now
visitors will come across some interesting ethnic products
and sometimes unusual antiques.
Visit the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain,
the Baisha Murals and the Ancient Shuhe Village of Naxi
Dragon Snow Mountain: The mountain is ten miles
from Lijiang, its landscape includes one of the southernmost
glaciers in the world. The Jade Dragon Snow Mountain
has 13 peaks, the main peak is 5,596 meters above sea
level, and is annually snowcapped. Scientists say that
the mountain formed over 230 million years ago from
ancient geosynclines when dinosaurs roamed on the Earth.
In the Naxi People¡¯s language, Jade Dragon Snow Mountain
means the place for loves that die for their love. Jade
Dragon Snow Mountain has rich vegetation coverage, featuring
distinct and complete alpine vertical ecosystem from
subtropical zone to frigid zone.
Baisha Murals: These murals are in Baisha Village
which lies in the north of Lijiang. Baisha murals are
mostly from the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). Among the
55 existing murals, the largest one is at the Dabaoji
Hall of Baisha. Most Baisha murals depict religious
stories, and one characteristic is to combine several
legends into one picture. They are an artistic crystallization
combining the Naxi, Tibetan, Bai and Han styles. The
originality and figures of the mural paintings reflect
the different religious cultures and artistic forms
of Buddhism, Lamaism, Daoism and the Dongba Religion
of Naxi People.
People: They live in concentrated communities in
the Lijiang Naxi Autonomous County in Yunnan Province,
their language belongs to the Chinese-Tibetan language
family. More than 1,000 years ago, the Naxi people had
already created pictographic characters called the "Dongba
||Lijiang - Shangri-La
Drive 180Km to Shangri-la. On the
way, visit the Tiger Leaping Gorge and the First bend
of the Yangtze River.
Gorge: The gorge is regarded one of the longest, deepest
and narrowest gorges in the world. It is about 98 kilometers
northwest of Lijiang Ancient Town, lying between Jade
Dragon Snow Mountain and and Haba Snow Mountain. The gorge
stretches about 15 kilometers (9 miles). For the experienced
and adventurous, thrilling raft rides are available. The
magnificent backdrop of the gorge, combined with the twisting
white water will create an exhilarating and unforgettable
white water rafting experience. For those who prefer a
gentle ride, slow-speed drifting is available in the calmer
sections of the gorge.
bend of the Yangtze River: When you are on the way
to Shangri-La from Lijiang, there are 2 stops for visits:
Tiger Leaping Gorge and the First Bend of the Yangtze
River. Rushing down from the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, "the
roof of the world", the Yangtze surges into Yunnan from
its northwest, where it meets Lancang River and Nu River.
Then, they go together through the high mountains and
deep gorges of Hengduan Mountains. Rushing southwards
from the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, the Yangtze is blocked
by the Hailuo Cliff at Shigu in Yunnan, which makes it
turn roughly to northeast, forming a rare great bend of
"V" shape, which is called the First Bend of the Yangtze

||Shangri-la - Deqen

Drive 190 km from Shangri-la
to Deqen which takes 5 hours, pass through
Baimang Snow Mountain Nature Reserve, you
will be able to view Baimang Snow Mountain
if it is clear. On the way, make a short stop
at Benzilan town and have lunch there. Take
some shots on the first bend of Yangtze River,
Dongzhulin Monastery and White Horse Snow
Mountain. The view along the way is impressive,
you will find all kinds of trees, flowers,
and streams, you will also see stupas, prayer
flags and Tibetan villages.

Get up early, and shoot
the splendid sunrise on Meili Snow Mountain.
After breakfast, drive 1.5 hour to Mingyong
Village, hike 4km on the trails to Mingyong
Glaciers of Meili Snow Mountain, walk another
1 hour or so, you will get to a Tibetan Taizi
Monastery - it is another good location to
view the magnificent Mingyong Glaciers. There
is an energy-saving option for you, you can
choose to hire a horse (on your own expense)
to go up to the glacier so that you can save
your energy. After seeing Mingyong Glacier
in Mingyong Village, you could trek along
the Lancang River Grand Canyon, there are
some Tibetan villages on the way. Try to trek
back to Flying Temple from the Lancang-Mekong
River, during this trekking, you could have
a nice view of Meili Snow Mountain and White
Horse Snow Mountain.
Snow Mountain: The mountain is also named
Prince Snow Mountain, which is located 10
kilometers (6.2 miles) northeast of Deqin
County of Yunnan Province. It sits on the
border of Yunnan and Tibet, where the three
famous rivers, namely the Jinsha, Mekong (Nu)and
Salwen (Lancang) flow. The Meili Snow Mountain
is famous for its lofty and mysterious magnificence,
Tibetans regard it as sacred and each year
in autumn Tibetan pilgrims come from near
and far to soak up the spiritual aura of the

Visit the Flying temple
and enjoy the sunrise of Meili Snow Mountain
in the early morning. After breakfast, drive
back to Shangri-La, have a nice view of Yangtze
River Grand Canyon, Baima Snow Mountain again
on the way back. Explore Dukezong Ancient
Town in the late afternoon.

Visit the Songzanlin Lama Temple,
the Potatso National
Park (including Shudu Lake, Bitahai Lake Resort and
Xiaji Resort). Take flight to Kunming.
Lama Temple: Also named Guihua Monastery, the temple
is the largest Tibetan Buddhist monastery in Shangri-La
of Yunnan province. It is one of the famous monasteries
in the region, nicknamed as "the little Potala Palace",
for the whole monastery is in the traditional style with
Lake: The lake is a well-known freshwater lake at
an elevation of 3540 meters in western Yunnan, and is
41 meters at its deepest point. Horses are also available
if you prefer riding to walking. "Bita" in Tibetan also
refers to a place where lots of oak trees are growing.
In the centre of the lake, a small wooded island is made
the shelter for many rare species of birds. If you are
lucky enough to be in the non-windy day, the rosy clouds,
the snow-capped mountains and the nearby forests are all
mirrored in the lake.
Lake: The lake is located 43km to the northeast of
Shangri-La City. Shudu Lake is 3705 meters above sea level
and is one of the biggest lakes in Diqing Prefecture.
Now it has been turned into a highland pasture resort.
The lake is shallow enough to be called interestingly
"a place where one can fish with a wooden stick". The
lake water is so clear that you can see the fish swimming
around. One special fish in the lake is called the cracked-stomach
fish for the crack line strangely running across its stomach.
