Xizhou Village has a more mixed population
and cosmopolitan backgroud. It grew and flourished in the
Ming Dynasty (1368-1644 ) along with the fortunes of Dali¡¯s
renowned tea merchants. each year enormous trains of pack
animals would set out from Xiguan loaded with bricks of tea
for the thirsty markets of Tibet. This lucrative trade spawned
a class of financiers and agents who in time gathered in xizhou
to build their gardens and pleasure- houses. Although sadly
run-down, many of these eccentric structures remain, including
a French fin de mansion.
